Suguru Osako Training in Nike’s Oregon Project

In March 2015, Suguru Osako left Japan’s Nissin Industrial Group to join Nike’s Oregon Project, becoming the program’s first Asian athlete. Despite language barriers and cultural adjustment, he trained under coach Pete Julian alongside Olympians Mo Farah and Galen Rupp. Embracing the project's culture of strength, speed, and altitude training, Osako shattered Japan’s 5,000m record that year, dominated the 2016 Nationals (5,000m/10,000m double), and clinched bronze at the 2017 Boston Marathon.
